THAIS CONVERT TO ORTHODOXY.

Representative of Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) and dean of St. Nicholas' Chapel of Bangkok hegumen Oleg (Cherepanin) administered the sacrament of the Holy Baptism over Mr. Suthorn Srusuno, baptised as Stephen, and Ms. Kopkraban Phansantit, baptised as servant of God Pelagia. Being a young family living in the province of Chonburi, Stephen and Pelagia intend to baptise their infant daughter, as well as legitimatise their marriage at the Orthodox Church with the Sacrament of the Holy Matrimony.

Hegumen Oleg (Cherepanin) administered the sacrament of the Holy Baptism as an exception, taking into account the testimony of the previously-baptised Orthodox Thais-members of the parish, stating that they conducted a course of catechumenism with the pleaders. Hegumen Oleg also obliged the newly-converted to attend the Scripture lessons at the parish 2 times a week. Servant of God Stephen (Mr. Suthorn Srusuno) expressed a desire for studying at a theological seminary, and his spouse encourages him on that. As of today, he has graduated from a Thai university as a bachelor. Representative of Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand promised to consider Stephen's request in a few month, judging by his diligence and assiduity to God's Church. As a kind of work of obedience, servant of God Stephen, having 10 years of driving experience, is entrusted the job of a voluntary driver of the parish.

During his speech to the parishioners on the day when the Thai couple was baptised, hegumen Oleg specifically noted that hearts of Thai people would be drawn to Christ only if they saw the divine grace take real action in each parishioner's life. When the pain of one becomes the community pain, when the faith relates directly to the everyday life. That is why everyone's mission should be started from oneself.

Priest ordination of Fr. Daniel (Danai) Wanna.

With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, bishop Mark of Egorievsk, Secretary of Moscow Patriarchia for foreign parishes, in Holy Life-Giving Trinity church in Horoshevo (Moscow) performed the priest ordination of the deacon Daniel (Danai) Wanna from St. Nicholas chapel in Bangkok (Thailand).

Fr. Daniel (Danai) Wanna became the first Thai Orthodox Christian priest. Fr. Danai finished his study in St. Petersburg Theological Seminary in 2008. On 28th August 2008, he was ordinated as a deacon by metropolitan of Smolensk and Kaliningrad Kirill (currently His Holiness Patriarch) and sent to serve in Bangkok. Because of grow of the Orthodox flock from Thai local people, as well as opening of new parishes in Thailand, on the 5th of July 2009 fr. Daniel was ordinated as a priest. He is going to serve as an Orthodox priest in his motherland Thailand.

First phase of All Saints Church construction in Pattaya has been completed.

First phase of All Saints Church construction in Pattaya (Chonburi province) has been completed. According to the contract, in June the workers laid the foundations, made the topping of the first floor and installed load-bearing pillars for walls layout and second floor preparation. It should be noted that the construction works are carried out in accordance with the contract and the schedule, with maximum possible quality. The church is planned to have been completed by the first half of November 2009, and it is going to be sanctified during the days of 10-th Orthodox anniversary in Thailand (18-28 of December, 2009).

Commemorative medal of the Orthodox Church in Thailand.

On the eve of 10th anniversary of Orthodoxy in Thailand, the Orthodox Christian Church in Thailand Foundation approved the project of a special commemorative medal as a Thai social award. Those who made a considerable contribution to the development of Orthodoxy in Thailand during those 10 years and cared for the welfare of the Orthodox Church, will be nominated for that award.

The medal consists of a silver oval, in the center of which there is a palm holding a burning candle. At the top of the oval the Gospel according to St. Matthew is cited: «You are the light of the world» (Matthew 5,14) in Thai. At the bottom of the silver oval the date «1999-2009 A.D.» is written with Thai digits.

The other side of the medal contains an image of the eight-pointed Russian cross adorned with laurel, and a circle writing in Thai: «Orthodoxy in Thailand 10-th Anniversary» and the date «1999-2009 A.D.»

The oval is attached to a block that resembles Thai national flag, in the middle of which there is an green enamel insert with a cross. The top of the block is adorned with a gilded palm branch.

The medal comes with a corresponding certificate in the Thai language.

The revered St. Nicholas the Wonder-Worker's image in Bangkok will be restored.

On the threshold of the Orthodoxy's 10th anniversary in Thailand it was decided to restore the revered St. Nicholas the Wonder-Worker's image in the chapel in Bangkok, and to fabricate a jewel-adorned riza for the icon of the Saint in gratitude for the miracles and God's help by prayers to this saint.

The sanctification of the restored icon and the newly-prepared riza is expected to be performed on the Saint's memorial day (December the 19th), during the beginning of the celebration.

The funding of those works is provided by St. Nicholas' parish of Bangkok with the assistance of the Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation on the account of the financial means directed to the Foundation for general purposes.

Iconostasis project for All Saints church in Pattaya has been approved.

The iconostasis project for All Saints church in Pattaya (Chonburi province) has been reconciled and approved. Typically for South-East Asia and Thailand, the three-tier iconostasis will be made from teak wood and termite-resisting materials. The first tier will include icons of the Saviour, the Iveron icon of the Mother of God, the patronal All Saints icon, Saint Nicholas of Myra in Lycia, the archangels Michael and Gabriel, and the Annunciation and the four Evangelists inserts on the Sanctuary doors.

Diplomatic reception on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the Pope's enthronement.

On nuncio of Vatican in Thailand, arch-bishop Salvatore Pennacchio's invitation, Chairman of the Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation Committee deacon Daniel (Danai) Wanna with his spouse attended a diplomatic reception on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of Pope Benedict XVI's enthronement. St. Nicholas' Chapel of Bangkok was represented by vice-chairman of the Parish council Mr. Mayari de Valeri. On Russian Orthodox Church Representation in the Kingdom of Thailand's behalf, the reception was attended by Representative's assistant, Dr. Vladimir Buntilov.

Construction works headed by Daniel Wanna on church's plot of land on Phuket have finished.

Representative of Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) hegumen Oleg (Cherepanin) on the Orthodox parishioners' behalf officially thanked deacon of St. Nicholas' Chapel of Bangkok Daniel (Danai) Wanna and his spouse Elena for their selfless labour during the construction of Holy Life-Giving Trinity Church on Phuket. In a short course of time deacon Daniel managed to encourage Russian-speaking parishioners, as well as local citizens, to build a mould around the church's plot of land in a few weeks, thereby preventing the washout of the ground, that begun because of the heavy rains. The work was done in heavy-load conditions, as the Church could not pay 1,000,000 baht requested by the building company. Thanks to fr. Daniel and people who helped him, Orthodox Church in Thailand saved more than 800,000 baht, spending only 200,000 baht on mould construction.

Mr. Thongkham Phiaxayavong (baptised as Anthony) was sent to Sretenskaya Theological Seminary.

With the blessing of His Eminence KIRILL, the Most Holy Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, the servant of God Anthony (Thongkham) Phiaxayavong, citizen of Laos Republic, converted to Orthodoxy from Catholicism and performing work of obedience in St. Nicholas' parish in Bangkok, was appointed to be sent to Sretenskaya Theological Seminary (Moscow, Russia) for education.

Upon receiving news on his educational assignment, Anthony (Thongkham) Phiaxayavong expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation to His Eminence, who always considers the needs of his remote parishioners in South-East Asia.

Since his convertion into Orthodoxy and while waiting for Church Hierarchy's blessing upon his future, Anthony (Thongkham) Phiaxayavong studied at preparatory courses arranged at St. Nicholas Chapel in Bangkok, among with catechism and other religious subjects, the English language, Russian history and the Russian language as well.

A joint session of parish councils and Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation Committee took place at Russian Orthodox Church Representation in Thailand.

At Russian Orthodox Church Representation in Thailand (Moscow Patriarchate) in the Kingdom of Thailand there has been a joint session of parish councils and Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation Committee on the occasion of 10th anniversary of Orthodoxy in the land of Thailand. Almost 10 years ago, on 28th of December, 1999, the Holy Synod of Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) made a decision to open St. Nicholas' parish in Bangkok.

The meeting considered a tentative program and date of the celebrations, sending it for His Holliness, the Most Holy Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia KIRILL's approval. Among the events, the program provides for sanctifying the Church in the name of All Saints in Pattaya (Chonburi province), various events in Bangkok, Phuket and Ratchaburi provinces. The program will be published in full detail after His Eminence, the Most Holy Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia KIRILL's approval.

During the session some questions of financial and organizational participation of each parish were considered, as well as the guest list.
