Meeting of aechimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Thailand.

The Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Thailand, archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) visited the Embassy of the Russian Federation, where he met with the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Thailand, Mr. Alexander G. Maryasov. Archimandrite Oleg informed the Ambassador of the religious situation in the Kingdom, the position of the Orthodox community in the country, the current activities of the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church and the plans for further development of church life in Thailand.

The Russian Ambassador expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Russian Orthodox Church. In particular, he noted the importance of the construction of Orthodox churches in Thailand, where every year there is an increasing number of fellow citizens. Also noted were the social activities of the Orthodox Church in Thailand to help our compatriots in distress. Alexander G. Maryasov expressed hope that the Orthodox Church in Thailand will continue efforts to consolidate the Russian community in the country.

A number of other issues of mutual interest were considered.

Belfry of All Saints Church in Pattaya.

The Foundation Committee of the Orthodox Church in Thailand considered the acquisition of a set of bells for the belfry of All Saints Church in Pattaya. It was decided that the purchase was needed. After some discussion with the leading bell-making companies of Russia, it was decided to use the products of the International Center of Bell Art (Russia). The required amount is set at 475,000 rubles (521,000 Thai baht or U.S. $ 16,000) of which 275 000 rubles is the cost of a set of eight bells and 200,000 rubles for an electronic device «electronic ringer», because access to the bell tower is difficult.

Continued construction work on the Orthodox church on the island of Phuket.

The Foundation Committee of the Orthodox Church in Thailand considered an appeal of the Parish Council of Holy Trinity Church on Phuket regarding the construction of the temple. At this stage of construction, the brick walls of the temple need to be built, estimated at 1.2 million Thai baht.

The Parish Council guaranteed the timely payment for the work. It was decided to support the petition of the Holy Trinity Church Parish Council and to mandate the chairman of the Foundation Committee priest Daniel Wanna to sign a contract for the next phase of construction. Following the negotiations with the management of the construction company, Fr. Daniel informed the Foundation Committee and the Parish Council of Holy Trinity Church on Phuket about the resuming construction of the temple after the April 16, 2010. The decision of the Foundation Committee was approved by the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin).

The inauguration of the new Russian Ambassador to Thailand.

On behalf of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) and the Orthodox community in the Kingdom of Thailand, archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) congratulated Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia in Thailand, Alexander G. Maryasov for his post assignment. Archimandrite Oleg wished the new Russian Ambassador God's help in his public service responsibility and called for God's blessing for his work.

Alexander G. was born in 1947. He graduated from the Faculty of International Relations MGIMO USSR in 1969, the Diplomatic Academy of the USSR in 1984, as a candidate of historical sciences. Since 1969, he held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR and Russia, and in diplomatic missions abroad.

1994-1997 – Consul General of Russia in Isfahan (Iran).
1997-2001 – Head of Department, Deputy Director of the Third Asian Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
2001-2005 – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
2005-2010 – Director of the Second Asian Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

From March 2010 – Russian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the ESCAP.

He has the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary (assigned by the Decree of the President of Russia on November 13, 2007).

Fluent in Persian and English.

Field meeting of the Foundation Committee of the Orthodox Church in Thailand in Ratchaburi province.

The Committee of the Foundation of the Orthodox Church in Thailand met in Ratchaburi province. The meeting was attended by the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Thailand, archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin). Members were apprised of the construction work on the temple of the Dormition of the Mother of God in the province of, as well as other residential and farm buildings on the temple area. Following the meeting, the progress and quality of the construction work was approved.

Due to the increasing amount of work it was decided to provide additional funding for this purpose in the amount of 1,000,000 baht. The Foundation Committee of the Orthodox Church in Thailand requested His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to reconstitute the Holy Dormition parish in Ratchaburi province as the Holy Dormition Monastery, and at certain times sent to Thailand a bishop to perform the Great Sanctification of the temple.

Electric line installed for the Orthodox temple in Phuket under construction.

Chairman of the Orthodox Christian Church in Thailand Foundation, priest Daniel Wanna made a working trip to Phuket for the delivery of electric power (about 1.5 km.) for the constructing Orthodox temple in honor of the Holy and Life-Giving Trinity in Phuket. The contract for the installation was made between the Foundation of the Orthodox Church in Thailand and the state-owned electricity supply in Phuket (Electric Province Authority of Phuket). Despite the fact that the work is long overdue, the quality of work is recognized as high quality. Thus, as stated by fr. Daniel, an electric supply for the temple is complete. In the near future the continuation of the temple’s construction in Phuket will be considered.

Russian TV in Pattaya broadcasts weekly orthodox programs.

The Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand received a proposal from the leadership of Russian-language TV channel 1 RU in Pattaya about the possibility of broadcasting weekly religious programs. After reading the proposal and weighing the possibilities, the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church agreed to prepare and conduct the programs. First instalment, about preparations for Lent and an explanation of the Gospel parable of the prodigal son, conducted by Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) has already aired. The success of this undertaking and the relevance of spiritual themes - is obvious. Immediately after the broadcast, some Russian-language newspapers in Pattaya asked for permission to reprint the transcript of the spiritual discussions on their pages.

Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Thailand, asked Orthodox parishes in the Kingdom to more actively cooperate with Russian-language media in the Kingdom.
