CONDOLENCES Mr. Michel de Valliere’s brother, Konstantine passes away.

The Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Thailand, the clergy and laity of the Orthodox parishes in Thailand express their deepest condolences to the Deputy Chairman of the parish council of St. Nicholas Church, Bangkok, Mr. Michel de Valliere. His brother Konstantine died of a heart attack at age 84.

To the last days of his life Konstantine kept good spirits and physical activity. He enjoyed working on his summer cottage. In addition to his hobby of gardening Konstantine had interest in space technology.

When he was treasurer of Holy Trinity Church in Castle Montbeliard, a local priest taught him the basics of icon painting. Since then Konstantine began to paint icons.

A memorial service for the repose of Mr. Konstantine will beheld at St. Nicholas Church, Bangkok, May 8, 2011 at 11:30 am.

A Paschal charity opera concert was held in Pattaya.

A Paschal charity opera concert was held in the resort town of Pattaya at the Royal Cliff Hotel. Appearing on stage were soloists of the Bolshoi Theater: Sergei Moskalkov and Yuri Baranov, as well as soloists of the "Russian Opera" theater, Nadezhda Niwinskaya, Alina Shakirova, Elena Kalagina and Lyudmila Vorobyova. Shizuka Toritani, the concertmaster of the "Russian Opera" theater, accompanied on the piano. The visit of the artists to Thailand was made possible through the sponsorship of Russian Foundation of St. Nicholas.

Funds from the Paschal concert, with the blessing of the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), and in accordance with the decision of the Foundation Committee of the Orthodox Church in Thailand will be sent to help local villagers in the province of Ratchaburi, where the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Moscow Patriarchate is located — 100 km. from the Thai capital. Local village authorities appealed to the Orthodox Church for help. Thailand's land forces are located near the Orthodox church . All the villages in the district, except the one to which funds will be sent, have early warning systems for ground maneuvers and target practice. The Orthodox community in Thailand is planning to establish a notification system in the village for local residents.

Traditional Paschal dinner of the St. Nicholas parish in Bangkok.

For the celebration of Holy Pascha Sunday the parish council of St. Nicholas Church, Bangkok, after the evening service, arranged a traditional Paschal dinner. The dinner was attended by the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), along with the delegations from the Catholic and Protestant communities in the country. There was conversation on general Christian social service in Thailand.

Holy Paschal Sunday.

This year, the Pascal services were held at St. Nicholas Church in Bangkok and All Saints Church in Pattaya. On Bright Tuesday holiday services will also be held at the Holy Dormition Church Ratchaburi province.

Especially solemn and crowded was Pattaya, where the permanent parishioners joined numerous tourists vacationing in this famous resort. At the service sang famous singers, soloists of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia and the theater "Russian Opera". The Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) celebrated with hierodeacon Seraphim (Raicea).

After the Divine Liturgy, the chairman of the St. Nicholas parish council, Mr. M. Chepel gave a gift, an ornate altar Gospel of large format, which, in consultation with the Representative, will be transferred to Trinity Church in Phuket.

On behalf of the Foundation Committee of the Orthodox Church in Thailand, awarded the assistant Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand reader Evgeny Petrov a silver medal for "charity and compassion" presented by archimandrite Oleg. Thanks to Mr. Petrov for his labor to establish Orthodoxy in Thailand. Fr. Oleg said that «All visible signs of regard and honor, we should not refer to the person himself but only to the Church which we represent in this remote region, constantly repeating: ‘Not to us, O Lord, not to us - but to your name give glory’”.

Archimandrite Oleg also thanked the excellent performance of singing church songs, presenting an icon of St. Nicholas, made in Thailand in the art of bronze casting from the old Russian models. Then Orthodox restaurateurs in Pattaya arranged for everyone to break their fast in the church refectory.

Working meeting of the Foundation Committee of the Orthodox Church in Thailand.

A regular meeting of the Foundation Committee of the Orthodox Church in Thailand convened. Current issues were discussed, among them, the provision of material assistance to a number of persons. It was decided to allocate 15,000 Thai baht to buy a return air ticket for a Russian cleric of the Moscow Patriarchate who happened to be in Thailand.

Visit to the Pattaya prison.

The Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) accompanied by the legal counsel of the Orthodox Church Foundation in Thailand Ms. Paraskeva (Promthida) Chakshuraksa visited the prison in Pattaya (Chonburi province). Archimandrite Oleg met with Russians offenders under investigation in the territory of the Kingdom, as well as those already convicted.

After the visit, archimandrite Oleg instructed the priest-in-charge of All Saints Church in Pattaya priest Daniel Wanna to take care of the Russian prisoners, who because of language difference are not able to bring their requests to the prison administration. In exceptional cases, Fr. Daniel could serve as a Russian translator at trial. During the conversation, Ms. Paraskeva gave her opinion on a number of prisoner cases. The tightening of Thai justice was also noted, in practice the courts resort to the maximum sentence. Major offenses committed by Russians in the Kingdom, remain stealing and buying/use of narcotic drugs.

Opera singers from Russia will perform Paschal hymns in Thailand.

April 23-24, 2011, on the eve of Pascha, with the blessing of Archbishop Mark of Yegorevsk, head of the Foreign Institutions Office of the Moscow Patriarchate, soloists from Moscow's "RUSSKAYA OPERA" theater will sing at All Saints Church in Pattaya. Assisting in this endeavor is the fund of St. Nicholas (Moscow) and the Foundation of the Orthodox Church in Thailand. Paschal hymns will be performed by:

Sergei Moskalkov, soloist of «BOLSHOI THEATER», soloist of «RUSSKAYA OPERA»
Nadezhda Nivinskaya, laureate of international contests, soloist of «RUSSKAYA OPERA»
Alina Shakirova, laureate of international contests, soloist of «RUSSKAYA OPERA»
Uriy Baranov, soloist of «BOLSHOI THEATER», soloist of «RUSSKAYA OPERA»
Ludmila Vorobyova, soloist of «RUSSKAYA OPERA»

It is expected that on April 25, Paschal Monday, the same artists with the participation of the accompanist Shizuka Toritani will give a charity concert.

Information: Theater «RUSSKAYA OPERA» was founded in 2008 by a group of Moscow opera singers and enthusiasts and the Charity Foundation of St. Nicholas the wonder worker. Artistic director of the theater is A. F. Vedernikov, People's Artist of USSR State Prize winner, soloist of the Bolshoi Theater. The repertoire of the theater includes many concert and opera programs.

Electrical bell ringing device delivered to the Orthodox Church in Pattaya.

To All Saints Church in Pattaya (Chonburi province), an electric ringer, a bell ringing device was delivered. The need for the electronic ringer arose from the fact that in the rainy season the climb to the bell tower is quite dangerous. The installation of the electronic ringer in the bell tower of All Saints Church in Pattaya was overseen by assistant to the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand, Dr. Vladimir Buntilov.
