A visit to Cambodia by the Representative of the Orthodox Church in Thailand has finished.

From 12 to 16 September 2012 the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), accompanied by the priest Alexei Golovin and assistant Sergei Kryuchin paid a pastoral visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia. The main purpose of the trip, alongside conducting divine services, was to hold constituent assemblies of new Orthodox communities in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville. The faithful expressed their desire to organize official parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate in the territory of that country. In accordance with the decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church Cambodia is assigned to the spiritual care of the Representative of Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand.

In Phnom Penh, archimandrite Oleg was met by S.A. Stepanov who assists him in Cambodia. September 13 at 18.00 the constituent assembly of the Orthodox faithful in Phnom Penh took a unanimous decision to establish an Orthodox parish in Phnom Penh, in the name of the Holy Great Martyr George The Victory Bearer under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate. A parish council was elected with its chairman being S.A. Stepanov.

The evening of September 14, a constituent assembly was held in Sihanoukville. Orthodox believers of Sihanoukville decided unanimously to create in Sihanoukville an Orthodox parish in the name of the Holy Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon. M. Ryumshin was elected chairman of the new parish council.

Saturday, September 15 Divine Liturgy was served for the first time in Sihanoukville; many of the faithful received the Holy Mysteries. After the Divine Liturgy, the Sacrament of Holy Baptism was performed for two compatriots, who wished to adopt the Orthodox faith.

Sunday, September 16, Divine Liturgy was served in Phnom Penh in the Chapel of the Holy Great Martyr George at the Bulgarian Embassy. Almost all who had come this day to the church confessed and received the Holy Mysteries.

Arrival of a new priest for Phuket.

The Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) visited Phuket, where a new priest fr. Alexei Golovin was presented to the Holy Trinity congregation.

Fr. Alexei will be the priest-in-charge of Holy Trinity Church in Phuket. He is also responsible for the pastoral care of the Orthodox believers in Cambodia. After a three-month adaptation period of candidature, fr. Alexei will be presented to the Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia for approval for permanent service in Thailand.

The Orthodox flock of Phuket warmly welcomed the new priest, who came to the island with his family, wife and daughter. The Church parish council and the Committee of the Orthodox Christian Church in Thailand Foundation promised to assist fr. Alexei in the settlement of his life on the island. The new priest began his pastoral care with a visit to the local hospital where one of the parishioners is in critical condition. In the near future fr. Alexei will also visit Cambodia, where he will meet with the two Orthodox communities: in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville.

Archimandrite Oleg, welcoming fr. Alexei, outlined his priorities for the priestly ministry in South East Asia and wished fr. Alexei well in his parish activities. In response, fr. Alexei assured the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand and the congregation that he would make every effort to ensure that Holy Trinity Church on Phuket grew and strengthened. Before the visit to Phuket fr. Alexei visited St. Nicholas Church in Bangkok and the Monastery of the Holy Dormition in Ratchaburi, where he served Divine Liturgy.

Upcoming pastoral visit to Cambodia.

With the blessing of His Eminence archbishop of Yegorievsk Mark, head of the Department for foreign institutions of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) and the Vicar of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Kingdom of Thailand, who has the pastoral responsibility for the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Lao People's Democratic Republic, will visit Cambodia from 12 to 16 September 2012.

PATRONAL FEAST OF THE HOLY DORMITION MONASTERY IN RATCHABURI.

August 28 the Holy Dormition Monastery in Ratchaburi celebrated its patronal feast day. From early morning pilgrims from different parishes in Thailand began arriving at the monastery, especially numerous were the groups from Bangkok and Pattaya.

By local tradition ​​all the priests, serving in Thailand, concelebrated Divine Liturgy. Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand presided. During the reading of the 3rd and 6th hours the sacrament of Confession was offered in the monastery chapel in honor of Our Lady of Iver. Many pilgrims and worshipers attended. The brethren of the monastery confessed after the Vigil the day before. At the All-Night Vigil with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, Mr. Marko Vodopivek was tonsured a rassophore monk of the monastery, called Sava, in honor of St. Sava of Serbia. Also the number of inhabitants of the monastery has led to new novices.

Offering congratulations for the feast, archimandrite Oleg urged the monks to guard the purity and austerity of monastic life of prayer. The prayer of the brothers not only strengthens the monastery, but the whole of the Orthodox Church in Thailand. According to Fr. Oleg, it is the sanctity of life in the monastery, which is the main reason that so many pilgrims visited the monastery in the day.

After the festive Divine Liturgy commemorating the Blessed Virgin Mary, there was a procession around the the monastery church. After the service a picnic meal was offered to pilgrims.

On this day, the monks of the monastery and the faithful welcomed the local administration and delegation of the Australian diocese of the Coptic Church. At the invitation of the local authorities, archimandrite Oleg with guests was acquainted with a number of social projects implemented by the local administration with financial support from the Church.

Monastic vows at the Holy Dormition Monastery.

With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) tonsured Mr. Marko Vodopivek as a rassophore monk after the All-Night Vigil for the feast day of the Holy Dormition Monastery in Ratchaburi province - the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin. At the monastic tonsure rite, the new monk was given the name Sava, in honor of St. Sava of Serbia.

Baptism of Mrs. Jatuporn Luengyotluechakul.

Before the Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas Church in Bangkok, the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) performed the Mystery of Holy Baptism for the Thai citizen, Mrs. Jatuporn Luengyotluechakul, christened to Orthodoxy as Nadezjda, in honor of Holy Martyr Nadezjda.

Prior to her conversion by Holy Baptism, Mrs. Jatuporn regularly visited the Orthodox church in Bangkok and held catechism under her daughter Irinia (Kulthida) who was baptized a year ago in the same church. According to the newly baptized Nadezjda, she found the «Law of God» by fr. Seraphim Slobodsky translated into Thai very helpful in preparing for Baptism, along with the participation of other Orthodox Thais, who helped her to better understand the Orthodox faith.

The meeting of the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand with the Deputy Mayor of Pattaya.

The Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) and Chairman of the Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation priest Daniel Wanna, together with the Deputy Honorary Consul of Russia in Pattaya V. Kriventsov, General Director of the "Russian House" company group Y. Segal and several other Russian businessmen in Pattaya, attended an informal meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Pattaya , Mr. Ronakit Ekasingh, responsible for security matters. The concerns of the Russian-speaking community of Pattaya were conveyed to the leadership of the City Hall and detailed answers were welcomed. Concern was expressed about the worsening crime situation in the city and unnecessary and non-localized distribution of entertainment business. For his part, the Deputy Mayor made ​​a number of valid claims to the Russians in his response.

Further he invited the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg to participate in the management meeting of Pattaya City Hall and the police department concerning crime situation in the city and the search for ways to improve the situation, scheduled for September this year.

In Pattaya, the opening of the first Russian-language secondary school.

The Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) and Chairman of the Orthodox Christian Church in Thailand Foundation priest Daniel Wanna attended the opening ceremony of the first Russian-language secondary school in the city of Pattaya. Education in the school will be held in accordance with the educational standards of the Ministry of Education of Russia and students of the school will receive a certificate of formation equivalent to the state standard of the Russian Federation. At the request of Deputy Mayor of Pattaya Mr. Ronakit Ekasingh, fr. Oleg ceremoniously cut the ribbon at the entrance. The school principal, Mr. Boris Khvatov showed the visitors the studying rooms and explained the plans for the upcoming school year. 

In his interview to the local media, archimandrite Oleg highlighted the importance of preservation of the national and cultural identity of our compatriots abroad. Fr. Oleg asked the founders and the school administration to explore the possibility of free tuition and scholarships for children, whose parents do not have the financial means to afford for education. The opening ceremony was also attended by members of the Honorary Consulate of Russia and local businessmen of Pattaya.

Received permission for a demonstration movie «The Priest» in the Orthodox parishes in Thailand.

In connection with plans to translate the film "The Priest" (film director - Vladimir Khotinenko) to the Thai language and present later in Orthodox parishes, the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand sought the appropriate permission from the owner of the film - the Cultural Cinema-TV Foundation «Orthodox Encyclopedia», which gave its permission to translate and present screenings in Thailand in the requested parameters (Letter № 854 of 17.08.2012). Currently the translated subtitles of the film are complete and in the near future Orthodox Thais, as well as all interested in Russian history and culture, will be able to be acquainted with the movie «The Priest» in their native language.

The Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand sincerely thanks the Cultural Cinema-TV Foundation «Orthodox Encyclopedia» for the opportunity to translate and present the film, with the support of missionary initiatives.

Reference: «The Priest» — Russian historical film by director Vladimir Khotinenko. This is the first feature film made under the auspices of the Moscow Patriarchate, and with the active participation of Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia.

The film relates the little-known history of the Great Patriotic War and the activity of the Pskov Orthodox mission. From August 1941 to February 1944 priests from the Baltic were reviving church life in the German-occupied territories, from Pskov to Leningrad.

Indian family became Orthodox.

With the blessing of the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), hieromonk Seraphim (Raicea) at St. Nicholas, Bangkok received into the Holy Orthodox Church from the Roman Catholic faith a citizen of India Mr. Sunil Benedict and his family (wife and daughter). The new members of the Orthodox Church were received by renouncing their heresy, confessing their sins and anointing by Holy Chrism. In Orthodoxy, they received the names Silouan, in honor of St. Silouan the Athonite; Guinevere, for the virgin martyr Guinevere (+572); and Irene, in honor of St. Irina.

That day there was the Divine Liturgy, when the family received Holy Communion. Archimandrite Oleg, congratulating the new members of the Orthodox Church presented them with an icon of St. Nicholas, archbishop of Myra and he offered his thanks to hieromonk Seraphim (Raicea) and the instructor of catechism courses Paul Sidebottom for their labors to catechize Mr. Sunil Benedict and his family.

Catechesis and the reception of the Indian family into the Orthodox Church at the St. Nicholas Chapel in Bangkok came at the request of Bishop Peter of Cleveland, hierarch of Chicago and Mid-America of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
