On Sunday, February the 1st, in the Cathedral of the Redeemer first time in its history an enthronement was held: during the solemn Divine Litugry 16th Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill ascended to the throne.

During the Liturgy two senior metropolitans, permanent members of the Holy Synod, took the Patriarch by the arm and seated him at his patriarch's throne at the altar center. Thrice-repeated seating at the throne was accompanied by the bishops' exclamations "Axios!" ("worthy" in Greek).

After that subdeacons took off the bethroned patriarch's bishop robes and put on him patriarch's robes: surplice and omophorion, and on the head - patriarch's mitre. In those particular garments the procedure of Russian Orthodox Church Patriarchs Alexy I, Poemen and Alexy II's enthronement was held.

By the beginning of the liturgy about five thousand people gathered round near the Cathedral of the Redeemer. During the divine service Russian president Dmitry Medvedev and PM Vladimir Putin were present.

The new Primate of Russian Orthodox Church was elected by the Local Council on 27th of January. It was Kirill, Locum Tenens of Patriarch's Throne, Chairman of the Church's External Relationships Department Metropolitan of Smolensk and Kaliningrad. He received 508 votes, with total number of 702 delegates who took part in voting.

Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand Representative's appeal to the Orthodox congregation of Thailand.

In response to Holy Life-Giving Trinity parish council on Phuket, hegumen Oleg (Cherepanin), Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) Representative in Thailand addressed himself to the Orthodox flock of Thailand with a request of financial aid to the construction works for Phuket Chapel building. Particularly, in hegumen Oleg's Address it's said:

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

There is an acute want in financial means for completing the land works in the area on Phuket where Chapel in the name of Holy Life-Giving Trinity would be constructed. Those of you who have ever been involved with construction know the importance of the first period of these works. It is even more essential for Thailand due to the season of pouring tropical rains. In order to avoid flooding of the territory where the chapel is located, it was decided to raise the ground level for more than 1 meter. For a territory of more than 4200 square kilometres it is a great volume of work. Lack of financial means is 1,250,000 ТНВ at the moment. The problem is made worse by the fact that these works can not be postponed. In spite of financial crisis and financial difficulties, which many of you might experience, I humbly ask you to respond to Phuket parish's request and render any possible assistance for the successful completion of the works. The faithfulness to God and the Church is tested not only at times of prosperity, but also, and even more at times of losses and disorder. May God bless you.

Stage of preparatory work for Holy Life-Giving Trinity chapel construction on Phuket.

In connection with the beginning of preparatory work for Holy Life-Giving Trinity chapel construction on Phuket and the number of questions related, Chairman of Christian Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation committee deacon Daniel Wanna visited the building site and got acquainted with the situation. As fr. Daniel noted in his report to the Foundation Committee, on the whole the work progress could be considered satisfactory. Thus, the building site has been completely leveled by now, a water hole has been excavated, and crush-rock pad has begun. There are some difficulties with the power supply, as the owners of neighbor plots of land refused to coordinate a temporary power line and didn't want to share the costs of placing a fixed line which they would be able to connect to. After the meeting the corresponding administrative structures of Talang district, a decision was made to fund this construction work without assistance, since the Church was offered a reduced tariff on placing a fixed power line.

Addition of soil remains a big problem. Out of more than 4000 sq.m. of the plot area, the addition of only 100 sq.m. has been performed. This is related to high costs of such type of work. The Foundation Committee asked Russian Orthodox Church Representative hegumen Oleg to appeal to the Holy Trinity parish council on Phuket and Orthodox congregation in Thailand with the request to increase the number of donations for these aims. Deacon Daniel Wanna informed that a temporary wooden church has been ordered for divine service on Phuket, and that some sponsors agreed to cover all the construction expenses.

Thais convert to Orthodoxy

On the day of the Epiphany Orthodox Church in Thailand accepted a new sister in Christ. At the St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Mira in Lycia chapel in Bangkok Mrs. Promthida Charshuraksha was baptised with the name Paraskeva, in honor of St. Martyr Paraskeva Friday.

Mrs. Promthida is a citizen of Thailand and Thai by nationality; she descends from the ancient aristocratic family that originated from the King Rama IV; she was educated at Chulalongkorn University of Thailand, where she received a degree in law, and is also known for remarkable achievements in shooting sports. For more than half a year she had been performing catechumenate by attending the divine service in St. Nicholas' Chapel in Bangkok, offering possible help to the chapel and, finally, on the day of the Epiphany she crossed the salvation fence of the church. The parish sincerely congratulates Paraskeva on baptising and wishes her rising in cognition of True God. As work of obedience, Paraskeva is blessed to deal with the questions concerning Orthodox Church's real estate purchases in Thailand and their legal registration.

A young couple of Russian tourists in Bangkok has had a misfortune.

Representative of Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Thailand hegumen Oleg (Cherepanin) and Chairman of the Christian Orthodox Church Foundation in Thailand deacon Daniel Wanna visited the Samitivej hospital in Bangkok. During the feast of Christmas a young couple of Russian tourists in Bangkok have had a misfortune. Their 8-year-old son Daniel was knocked down by a speeding car while he was crossing a busy road. The boy couldn't orientate himself in the system of left driving; he received a serious craniocerebral trauma and lapsed into coma. The sorrow of his parents is beyond measure. The priests consoled the parents, calling on not to lose hope and asked them to pray to God for the cure of their child. In the evening at St. Nicholas' Chapel in Bangkok the reading of a special ectene of the ill servant of God boy Daniel's cure began. Hegumen Oleg (Cherepanin) also appealed to all Orthodox believers in Thailand to pray for the boy in certitude that everything is possible with God's help.
