Charitable activity of the Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation.
10 years ago, on March the 24th, 1999, a military campaign by NATO against Union Republic Yugoslavia was put into force. The aggression of NATO against a sovereign state lasted until 10th of June, 1999. During the bombardment more than 2000 civilians died, and the country was thrown back in its economic development by 50 years. Many of its citizens had to leave for safer countries for work and living.
Recalling those events with sorrow and praying for the deceased civilians, as a token of moral support for the Serbians of the same faith, the Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation offered a special grant of 1,200 (One thousand two hundred euros) to a Serbian citizen Alexander Jukich, who presently studies at the department of Chinese medicine and is experiencing financial problems at the moment. The Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation's decision was also supported by the administration of the department where Alexander studies.

St. Nicholas' parish was visited by fr. Heikki Huttunen, an Orthodox priest from Finland.
During the Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, Arch-Bishop of Myra in Lycia parish in Bangkok, its dean, hegumen Oleg (Cherepanin) was assisted by an Orthodox priest from Finland fr. Heikki Huttunen, who was in Bangkok on the occasion of a conference held by the World Church Council. After the Divine Liturgy the priests had a conversation and exchanged their views on various aspects of church life. The guest was also acquainted with the Orthodox Church in Thailand's activities and met with the parishioners.
The Finnish Orthodox Church is included under the autonomy rights into Constantinopolitan Patriarchate and thereby is a canonical church structure.

Discussion of various versions of Church in the name of All Saints which is to be built in Pattaya.

Pastoral visit to Pattaya.
On 19 and 20 of March Representative of Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Thailand hegumen Oleg (Cherepanin) and deacon Daniel Wanna, Chairman of the Christian Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation committee, visited the parish in the name of all saints in Pattaya city, Chonburi province, where they got acquainted with the stage of preparatory construction works and met the parishioners. It was decided to open a parish-wide discussion of two versions of the supposed chapel, publish the versions on the Orthodox Church in Thailand's website and, after studying the public opinion, return to the question of final project approval.

Representative of Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand hegumen Oleg (Cherepanin) visited Phuket island.
Representative of Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand hegumen Oleg (Cherepanin) visited the island of Phuket. Meetings with some businessmen willing to participate in chapel construction on the island, as well as with the council of Holy Trinity parish took place. After the meeting hegumen Oleg sanctified the houses of some parishioners.

A panihida was serviced for the Russian victims in South Vietnam.
At St. Nicholas' Chapel in Bangkok after the Divine Liturgy a panihida was serviced for the Russian tourists who deceased in the south of Vietnam. According to Russian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, in the sightseeing bus that fell into a precipice 9 people died. The Orthodox believers also prayed for the health of those who, as a result of this accident, are now in grave condition in local hospitals. During the divine service hegumen Oleg (Cherepanin) noted that all the pain and suffering of our countrymen is our own pain as well. Fr. Oleg called the flock to refrain from entertainment trips during the Great Lent, and to concentrate on prayers and good deeds.

Liturgy of The Presanctified Gifts at St. Nicholas the Wonderworker's Chapel
By the request of Orthodox believers in Thailand, from Friday of the second week of Lent, the Liturgy of The Presanctified Gifts at St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Mira in Lycia's Chapel in Bangkok will be held in the evening, beginning at 7.00 PM.
Such practices are allowed in many Russian Orthodox parishes, especially abroad. For example, in the evening The Liturgy of the presanctified elements is held at our Orthodox parishes in Portugal, Cleveland (USA), Vilnius (Lithuania), Minsk (Byelorussia). In this connection a question concerning Eucharistic fasting arises. After analysing the experience of other Russian Orthodox parishes, we can conclude that in some of them it is appropriate to keep the fasting since midday, and in other - since midnight, i.e. it lasts for almost a full day. The official requirements state that Eucharistic fasting should last at least six hours. Therefore, according to divine service curriculum in Thailand, when the evening service starts at 7.00 PM, it is necessary to keep the fast since midday, but not less that since 1 PM. Extending the period of Eucharistic fasting is a question of personal devotion and health status.

Liturgy of The Presanctified Gifts is one of the offices of the liturgy held in Orthodox Church. On this liturgy the Eucharist is not serviced, and the Communion is done with the Presanctified Gifts. The office of the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts was composed and introduced to religious practice by St. Gregory I the Great (+604) on the base of similar eastern liturgy. It is conducted during The Great Lent on Wednesdays and Fridays, on Thursday of the fifth week of The Great Lent, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of the Holy Week. The Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts does not include the office of oblation and is held jointly with the vespers. The office comprises two parts: liturgy of the Catechumens (where the Catechumens are allowed to be present) and liturgy of the Faithful (which they are not allowed to attend). Liturgy of the Catechumens includes the blessing, the Invitatory, readings of the prayers of light, the Great Ektene, cathisma, sticherons praising the Lord, procession with censer or the Gospel, singing of "The Gladdening Light", readings of paremii, the prayer of Ephraem the Syrian, readings of the Gospel (if it is appropriate according to the Rules), the Ektene of Supplication and the Catechumens. Liturgy of the Faithful: begins with the Great Entrance with Presanctified Gifts while singing the prayer "Now the Powers of the Heaven...", followed by the Ektene, the prayer "Our Father", the communion of the clergymen, the communion of the laity, the prayer behind the amvon, Psalm 33, and the dismissal prayer.

The preparatory works for Pattaya chapel construction have begun.
The preparatory works for Chapel in the Name of All Saints in Pattaya (Chonburi province) have begun. The day before Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) Representative in Thailand hegumen Oleg (Cherepanin) and Chairman of the Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation deacon Daniel Wanna visited the city of Pattaya and offered some recommendations at the city administration in connection with the upcoming construction works. They had to get the permission from the Nature protection Committee in order to chop down some big trees that grew in the territory acquired by Orthodox Church in Thailand, as well as more accurate definition of the territory limits in accordance with chanot (land ownership certificate), as a small part of the plot was illegally used by local citizens as a parking lot. The controversial issue was solved in a couple of minutes to the benefit of Orthodox Church in Thailand, and according to policemen's instructions, the parking lot was immediately moved.
After solving all the issues, deacon Daniel Wanna signed a contract of performing soil works. They are planned to be finished in a week. The direct control over the performance and the precise execution of the contract was entrusted to the member of All-Saints' parish council of Pattaya Mr. Chirayut Phansanthit, an Orthodox Thai who was baptised seven years ago. The next step in Pattaya chapel construction is going to be the project's architectural design discussion and affirmation with all the corresponding technical documentation, after that the very chapel construction may begin. Hegumen Oleg (Cherepanin) once again appealed to the parishioners that everyone should unite one's efforts in this sacred deed.

Preparatory soil works on Phuket have been finished.
The preparatory soil works and cable grooming have finished in the plot of land on Phuket, where Chapel in the name of Holy Life-Giving Trinity is going to be constructed. Thereby, the first stage of chapel construction has been completed. The parish council intends to proceed to temporary wooden chapel installation, as well as beginning to sign agreements with the province administration in connection with the permanent chapel construction.
