Primate of the Russian Church noted the importance of Orthodoxy in Asia.

In his report to the bishops' conference, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia stressed the importance of active development of the Orthodox presence in Asia.

Addressing the bishops gathered February 2, 2010 in the hall of Cathedral of Christ the Savior, His Holiness presented the following: in June 2009 a temple was consecrated in honor of the Holy Trinity in Ulan Bator; the "Laying of the brick" service was performed by His Holiness in the summer of 2001, when he was the chairman of the DECR; in December 2009, as part of celebrations to mark the 10th anniversary of Orthodoxy in Thailand, a temple was consecrated in honor of All saints in Pattaya, as well as the the constructing of the temples started in Phuket and Ratchaburi; in October, an Orthodox church was consecrated in honor of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary - a spiritual monument of the Russian Spiritual Mission in Beijing, located at the Russian Embassy in China.

His Holiness said, the Chinese Autonomous Orthodox Church still has a difficult position. «This effort is the subject of our many years of dialogue with the government of the People's Republic of China», - said the Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. This topic was also discussed at the last year’s meeting of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill with the head of the State Administration for Religious Affairs of China, Ye Xiaowen, who arrived in Moscow for the celebrations of the enthronement of the Patriarch at the head of official delegation of China. In November 2009 a delegation of the Council for Cooperation with Religious Associations under the Russian President with representatives from the Department for External Church Relations of Moscow Patriarchate, headed by archbishop Hilarion visited China. Talks were held with the leadership of the State Administration for Religious Affairs; mutual understanding was reached on the development of Russian-Chinese exchanges and cooperation in the religious sphere including the preparation of Chinese students by the Russian Orthodox Church.

His Holiness also noted an important development of cross-border cooperation with China in the Far East of Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The coordinating role in this area is entrusted to the chairman of the Department for External Church Relations.
