First transfer of fund to help the victims of the fires in Russia.

As the Chairman of the Committee of the Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation priest Daniel Wanna reported, the allocated funds in the amount of 50,000 Thai baht to help the victims of the fires in Russia have been transferred to the account of the Synodal Department for Charity and Social Service of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate).

In accordance with the call of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, churches of the Orthodox Church collected donations for three Sunday services to help the fire victims. Upon completion, the total will be transferred and recorded on the official website of the Orthodox Church in Thailand for the donors’ information.

Orthodox Christians, all people of good will!

In Russia, trouble came after heat waves, causing numerous fires killing dozens of people, leaving hundreds, if not thousands without shelter, food and clothing. Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia called upon the Russian Orthodox Church for prompt and generous assistance for our affected countrymen, and brothers and sisters in Christ.

Troubles have come to us before but with the cooperation of taking on our neighbors’ grief and God's help, the Russian Orthodox people always cope with the disaster. I am sure this will be the case now.

It is unlikely that we can call Orthodox Christian, despite baptism, those who live in relative prosperity and remain indifferent to the woes of those who are in despair, losing all that for which they worked, and the most terrible, even loved ones to the fiery flames.

"God does not save people without people", said the Holy Fathers. We pray to God for the forgiveness of our sins, which are always the cause of all discord, pray for rain to parched lands, but we appeal to you, to all of the Orthodox flock in Thailand. Take the bounty of your need. "Show me thy faith by works" - urged the Apostle James to Christians, adding that "faith without works is dead".

I know that each of us is already contributing to the costs for church needs, donating to the construction of temples in Phuket, Ratchaburi and Samui. But there’s the popular saying, "God is not in the logs, but in the ribs. "The commandment of love of God is inextricably linked to the commandment of the love of neighbor. "God is love" as defined by St. John the Evangelist. To refrain from some of the excesses in food or visiting entertainment, will collect the amount required to help the victims in Russia.

With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia in the next three Sunday, we will collect donations for the victims of the fires in Russia. The funds collected will be credited to the Foundation of the Orthodox Church in Thailand and then transferred to the account of the Synodal Department for Charity and Social Service of the Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow. Knowing the Chairman of that Committee - archimandrite Panteleimon (Shatov) I can honestly say that the money will reach the victims promptly, because I do not know the other person, so selflessly give himself to serving people.

I ask you, beloved children, to sacrifice as much as possible on these Sundays and those who are not able to come to the church these days to transfer the funds to the Foundation of the Orthodox Church in Thailand denoting the payment purpose: "to help the victims of the fires in Russia" . An emergency meeting of the Committee of the Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation.

The Foundation Committee of the Orthodox Church in Thailand (Moscow Patriarchate) called an emergency meeting. The agenda focused on the address by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia on victim assistance in Russia from the abnormal drought and fire. To date victims number in the thousands, including dozens of fire victims. Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand read the address of the Patriarch. «Trouble, which occurred in Russia, - in the words of archimandrite Oleg, - is our problem, and we cannot have peace of mind until the situation normalizes. Construction of temples, despite their importance and significance, cannot be above needy people».

The members of the Foundation Committee of the Orthodox Church in Thailand of Thai nationality are not indifferent to the situation in Russia. According to the Chairman priest Daniel Wanna, Orthodox Church in Thailand is too indebted to the Russian Orthodox Church and His Holiness himself to remain indifferent to the woes of thousands of Russian Orthodox people, left homeless or in the hospital, having suffered from burns. In addition to the unanimous decision to support the call of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill for a special collection during the next three Sunday services, the Committee of the Foundation allocated 50,000 Thai baht from the Foundation account itself. The Committee instructed fr. Daniel to contact the Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service of the Russian Orthodox Church to find the bank details for the implementation of remittances. At the conclusion of a Sunday cash charges to parishes, the collected money will be sent to Russia for assisting victims of fires.

A group of Lutheran students visited All Saints Church in Pattaya.

A student group from the Lutheran Theological Institute in Bangkok visited All Saints Church in Pattaya (Chonburi province). The group was headed by the Lutheran mission Jukka Helle. The young Thai Lutherans attended their first Orthodox service, which made a great impression on them. Acting rector, priest Daniel Wanna served Vespers, saying all the litanies in the Thai language. A choir of students from St. Tikhon's Orthodox Humanitarian University in Moscow also were present to witness the practice of the Orthodox Church in Thailand. Accordingly prepared, they answered the priest’s litanies in Thai.

After the completion of vespers, according to established tradition, archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Thailand, celebrated a prayer service before the miraculous icon of St. Nicholas, archbishop of Myra, the main shrine of the Orthodox believers in Thailand, located in All Saints Church in Pattaya.

Then the guests were acquainted with the construction and painting of the Orthodox Church. Fr. Daniel Wanna answered numerous questions from the Lutheran students. He spoke about the history of Orthodoxy in Thailand and future plans for the Orthodox Church in the country. On behalf of the parish of All Saints tea-party was arranged for the guests in the dining room of the temple. At tea time students from Orthodox St. Tikhon's University performed several Russian folk songs and gave the Thais original souvenirs. In response, the guests also performed several songs in Thai and warmly thanked the hosts for their friendly welcome.

Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church visited by representatives of the community in Taizé and the head of the Lutheran Mission in Thailand.

The Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Thailand received a visit from representatives of the community in Taize (France) brother Ghislain and the head of the Lutheran mission in Thailand Rev. Jukka Helle. The guests became acquainted with the current state of the Orthodox Church in Thailand, particularly with the construction of Orthodox churches.

In a friendly relaxed atmosphere the situation of the various Christian communities in Thailand were discussed, along with the general Christian social service society. Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) explained the position of the Russian Orthodox Church on the ecumenical movement and agreed to participate in the general Christian social projects within the country, if they are not accompanied by actions of common prayer and ceremonies. The head of the Lutheran mission asked permission to introduce students of the Lutheran mission in Bangkok with the Orthodox architecture and liturgy, visiting All Saints Church in Pattaya (Chonburi province). The meeting exchanged views on the issue of Christian theological education in Thailand. Fr. Oleg asked about the educational process in the Lutheran Institute of Bangkok, where to date about 20 students have been trained. The meeting was attended by the assistant to the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand, Dr. Vladimir Buntilov.

Interns from St. Tikhon's University will visit Bangkok.

A group of students from the St. Tikhon Orthodox Humanitarian University (Moscow) are having a working practice at Orthodox parishes in Thailand. Local media have noted the high quality of church singing performed by the students in the services at the All Saint Church in Pattaya (Chonburi province). On Sunday, July 17 interns are invited by the parish council to St. Nicholas Chapel in Bangkok to visit the capital of the Kingdom. After the Divine Liturgy the guests will be taken on a tour of the city during which they will be able to see the sights of the Thai capital.

Painting finished at All Saints Church in Pattaya.

In the Church of All Saints in Pattaya (Chonburi province) completed the ceiling painting of the temple. In the center of the main dome is painted an image of Our Lady of "The Sign", framed with the inscription of the prayer "Hail Mary, Hail..." in the Thai language. Then there are the Holy Evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, writing the Scriptures with the angels standing by. Painted on the entrance ceiling is an image of the Lord Almighty with the Gospel. All the artwork was painted ​​by Thai artists from the budget of the parish. The Foundation Committee of the Orthodox Church in Thailand, according to its Chairman priest Daniel Wanna, is ready to consider painting the Holy Dormition Church in Ratchaburi province with the same team of artists.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Because of the plans in opening a Holy Dormition Orthodox monastery for men in Ratchaburi province, kingdom of Thailand, in jurisdiction of Moscow Patriarchate, The Representation of Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand and Orthodox Christian Church in Thailand Foundation invite men of any nationality, above 21 years old, of Orthodox faith and wishing to undertake a monastic way of life as monastery novices. Ordinations into monkhood (riasofor and mantia) are possible after three years of probation period (iskus) and with the presence of positive recommendation from the dean of the monastery and the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russian Kirill. A candidate may be accepted after reviewing the documents of the candidate, a personal interview, followed by the confirmation from the church authorities of Russian Orthodox Church.

Progress on the construction of the Holy Trinity Church in Phuket

A meeting of the Committee of the Orthodox Christian Church in Thailand Foundation was devoted to the progress of construction of the Holy Trinity Church in Phuket. Despite the financial crisis, work on the construction of the temple in honor of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity was not halted. In fact, to date, more than 50% of the infrastructure has been completed. Representative of Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) attended the meeting of the Foundation Committee. Fr. Oleg revealed some technical flaws in the work, based on the opinion of a group of parishioners who have education in construction and carefully investigated the construction prior to Committee meeting. The Committee requested the construction team to eliminate the noted deficiencies. Following the meeting, it was decided to finance the next phase of construction for the Holy Trinity Church by the fund of the Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation to the amount of 1,000,000 Thai baht. Also noted, Orthodox believers living in Phuket need to take a more active involvement in raising funds for the building of Holy Trinity Church.

The establishment of the Holy Dormition Monastery in Ratchaburi prov., Thailand.

Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill supported the proposal by the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand (Moscow Patriarchate) archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) on the establishment in Thailand of the Holy Dormition Monastery in Ratchaburi province. There construction of the Holy Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church along with residential and project buildings is complete. In this regard, as well as for an early start of worship in the church, the Patriarch blessed archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) to perform the rite of small Consecration of the temple. The Great Consecration of the temple of the Holy Dormition will be performed together with the consecration of the Holy Trinity Church in Phuket, on completion of construction work there, probably in 2011. Archimandrite Oleg was blessed to begin organization of the monastic community, depending upon the Secretariat of foreign institutions of the Russian Orthodox Church to approve monastic candidates.
