Social welfare of the Orthodox Church in Thailand.

The Foundation of the Orthodox Church in Thailand paid the deportation expenses, including airfare and a fine for violation of visa, for a troubled Russian citizen. The Foundation Committee especially thanks Holy Trinity Church parish council in Phuket, who took up the major expenses.

Electrical failure in the Holy Dormition Monastery.

On the night of 6-7 June during thunderstorms, a direct lightning strike hit the distribution electrical panel of Holy Dormition Monastery’s electrical system. The electrical panel and electrical cables leading to the panel were completely destroyed. A team of electrical engineers throughout the next day restored the electricity supply to the monastery. To avoid such future incidents, a shield was installed with a lightning rod. The damage to the monastery was considered insignificant. Restoration work was paid for by the Foundation of the Orthodox Church in Thailand.

Opening digest of "Komsomolskaya Pravda" in Thailand.

The Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) accompanied by the assistant Dr. Vladimir Buntilov attended a reception to launch the publication of the digest "Komsomolskaya Pravda" in Thailand. The publisher of "Komsomolskaya Pravda" in Thailand, Mr. Dmitry Brik explained the purposes and prospects in the Kingdom's edition. As noted by archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), the Orthodox Church is ready to support any initiative aimed at the welfare and self-organization of our compatriots abroad, including in the field of information. It is important, according to Fr. Oleg, that the proposed information was truthful and politically impartial. The reception was also attended by representatives of the Russian business, media and the Russian Embassy in Thailand.

Meeting of archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) with the Thai police.

At All Saints Church in Pattaya in Chonburi province, the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) met a group of Thai police from the Committee for the suppression of transnational crime. Guests heard with great interest the practice of pastoral care of Orthodox believers in Thailand, along with the principles of social service of the Orthodox Church. Agreeing with the arguments about increasing violations of Thai law by Russian and CIS citizens who visit the Kingdom as tourists, archimandrite Oleg explained the general growth of tourism brings the increase of crime by locals against foreigners. This is mainly theft and robbery.

Guests noted the positive activity of the Orthodox Church in Thailand and, in particular Pattaya. There was an exchange of views on a range of issues. The meeting was also attended by the priest-in-charge of All Saints fr. Daniel Wanna, chairman of the Foundation of the Orthodox Church in Thailand.

Construction progress of Holy Ascension Church on Samui.

The parish council of Holy Ascension Church on Samui (Suratthani province) reported on the construction of the temple on the island. As the treasurer of the community Alexei Tyutin, saw the foundations completed. Construction workers have moved to frame the concrete base of the building. The parish council appreciated the quality of work. As a result of the parish council’s report, the Committee of the Orthodox Church in Thailand Foundation decided to continue the construction and allocate 1,500,000 Thai baht for this purpose.

Charity of the Orthodox Church in Thailand in the province of Ratchaburi.

The Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), accompanied by the Chairman of the Foundation of the Orthodox Church in Thailand priest Daniel Wanna and the local administration visited several poor families in the villages of Ratchaburi province. On behalf of the Orthodox Church, archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) gave financial support to the families. A family consisting of a disabled elderly couple, husband 94 and his wife 76 years old have no means of livelihood. They survive only on alms. With the blessing of archimandrite Oleg, a fixed monthly financial assistance fund will be sent from the Foundation of the Orthodox Church in Thailand.

Donation to a village in Ratchaburi province.

The Chairman of the Orthodox Christian Church in Thailand Foundation, priest Daniel Wanna gave the donations to a village collected at the Paschal charity opera concert April 25. The village is located near the Church of the Holy Dormition of the Mother of God in Ratchaburi province. The sum of 22,700 Thai baht was transferred to the local village headman for warning device alarm system. Near the Orthodox Church in Ratchaburi province is a landfill of the Thai army. In all the villages of the district, except the one to which the funds were sent, have an early warning system of firing. On behalf of the residents, the village mayor thanked the Orthodox Church for caring for ordinary people. He expressed confidence that the social activities of the Orthodox faithful will further the authority of the Orthodox Church in the region.

Victory Day celebrations in Thailand.

With the blessing of the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), a large number of Russian and CIS citizens held celebrations in Pattaya to mark the 66th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the end of the Second World War. The celebration was organized by a group of companies «Russian House», co-sponsored by «Centara Grand Mirage Beach Resort Pattaya», «Heights Holdings», «Pegas Touristik», «Ilves Tours», «Big Holiday», TV «1Ru Television», the newspaper «Pattaya Segodnya», as well as the newspaper «Arguments and Facts».

Among the special guests of the festival were World War II veterans who were given free flight from Moscow to Thailand, as well as free accommodation in one of the best hotels in Pattaya.

The hall was also attended by a large delegation from the Russian Embassy in Thailand, the diplomatic representatives of the Allies in World War II and local officials.

Before beginning the celebrations, a memorial service was held at All Saints Church in Pattaya for those killed in the war. In his speech to the gathering, archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) stressed that Victory Day should be for us not only a historical holiday, but a special symbol to which we need to match our life and achievements. As stated by the organizers of the celebrations, the collected funds will be transferred to the Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church to provide social assistance to the needy.

Archimandrite Oleg’s trip to Penang.

At the invitation of the Honorary Consul of Russia Mr. Teoh Seng Lee, the Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church in Thailand archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin) visited Penang, Malaysia.

During the visit, archimandrite Oleg held an informal meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Malaysia Mrs. Lyudmila Georgievna Vorobieva, as well as the Consul General of Thailand to Penang Mr. Voradet Viravakin.

A number of issues of mutual interest were discussed.
